True luxury: when feeling is more important than doing

Pure luxury. That is what the 9 of Cups symbolizes. That moment when everything is just right, nothing is missing, and we even feel a sense of abundance. However, luxury means something different to everyone. Perhaps you remember one of my older posts in which I asked you what luxury means to you. The cups themselves represent our feelings and emotions. Thus, the perception of luxurious moments is a very individual experience for each person.

What does luxury feel like? A question that is really not easy to answer. For me, it means that everything just fits. Pretty vague, right? I’ll try to be more specific, and maybe you’ll even find yourself in some of these points. Feel free to write in the comments if you want to add to the list or if some of the points are not necessary for you.

For me, luxury means:

  • My time belongs to me. That means I can devote 100% of my attention to whatever I want to do at any given moment.
  • I am only responsible for myself. We often bear responsibility for other people or living beings. Pets are one such example. Once their care is taken care of, this responsibility falls away.
  • I have my energy with me. Nothing and no one takes even a spark of it away from me at this moment.

Have you noticed that there is nothing materialistic on my list? That’s because I don’t define material things as luxury. Either they belong to me or they don’t. I regard my possessions as what they are: mine. Some of them are not necessary for life, but I don’t think we have to live in complete survival minimalism to feel a sense of luxury.

In moments of luxury, we usually feel free, powerful, as if we could uproot trees with our enjoyment. And then we move from feeling to doing. Some of us share these moments on social media as quickly as possible. Some for attention, some simply because they want to share the moment. And then comes the backlash. This social rule that prevents us from enjoying ourselves. Take a look at posts on social media where people are simply enjoying a moment and want to share it. Few comments are from well-wishers. Most come from envious people or people who don’t want to see it.

The action just described is also symbolised by the 8 of Wands. Quick actions, impulsive, perhaps not entirely thought through. Acting for the sake of acting, because we have forgotten how to feel and enjoy. We feel compelled to do something, because simply being and enjoying the moment could be interpreted as laziness.

Ah, here come the first accusations: How can you sit there when there is so much to do? What have you done to deserve this moment? Who do you think you are?

It’s hard when I think about how often we begrudge each other things. What prevents us from being happy for our counterparts? Can you think of a reason? Is it really envy or is it something else? I would like to just leave this question open. If you have an idea, please share it. Through this exchange, we can all understand a little more and grow.

So what is the essence of today’s cards?

First of all: if you have a moment in which you feel what you define as luxury, then enjoy it. Savour it. Feel, smell and taste it to the fullest. Be aware: you don’t have to earn anything! You are worth it! You are allowed to!

And secondly: think carefully about whether you really want to take action in a moment of enjoyment. It’s better to use this moment for yourself. Recharge your batteries and relax. You can act and do things later; now is the time to feel.

Last but not least, some well-intentioned, albeit unsolicited, advice:

if you ask a hundred people about this topic, you will hear a hundred opinions. So don’t ask others what true luxury is for you, but listen to yourself. And once you know what luxury means to you, think carefully about whether and with whom you share these thoughts and feelings. You can enjoy yourself much more often when no one else interferes.
