What the tarot card „The Tower“ really means – and how it shaped my life

Today I would like to show you what can happen if you don’t get all the important information from a tarot reading (no matter where and from whom). I will use a reading that I received over 20 years ago. At that time it was about my personality card. This card can be any of the 78 of the Major and Minor Arcana. A personality card is, as the name suggests, something personal. It is very individual for each person, also in its interpretation. I like to combine it with the birth card, because this combination tells us a lot about ourselves, our tasks and also our strengths and weaknesses.

As I said, my personality card was drawn for me over 20 years ago. A very long time has passed and yet this card has shown itself very often. It has always been there and perhaps I have also based my personality on this energy over the years. I was still a child at the time, so there is a very good chance that this was the case.

The card I received back then was the Tower. Imagine being in that pre-pubescent phase and receiving this card. The lightning that strikes the tower and sets it on fire. The people falling out of the windows or maybe even jumping. It’s a bit creepy. The information I received at the time was as follows: „You have the ability to bring things down. You are the tip of the scales that decides between success and failure. That’s what makes you who you are.“

Feeling a little queasy right now? I understand. For many, many years, I carried the responsibility that came with this statement. I felt responsible for every failure. It wasn’t just my own failure that was my responsibility, but also the failures on the outside. I was involved? I was to blame! I wasn’t involved, but I said something about it or had an opinion about it? I was to blame! But the tower has so much more to offer than destruction and collapse. But this information was withheld from me at the time. It wasn’t until I had studied the tarot and all the meanings myself that I understood what my personality really was.

The Tower card naturally has a bad aftertaste. Many of us are afraid that it will appear in a reading, because we know that it does: The Tower stands for a challenging time. This card does indeed symbolize collapse. But it is not a flat rate in destruction. Just think about the following question for a moment: How is it possible for lightning to bring down a stone tower?

And this is exactly where the information lies that I had to learn myself. The tower only symbolizes the issues that are built on shaky foundations. If the building fabric is not right, then the apparently strongest building can collapse. Let me take a fictitious job as an example. Imagine you have this job, which actually fits quite well. You’re happy with your work, your salary and your working hours. You do it for a while and everything feels good. But then you notice things that you could only see after you’ve gotten to know everything. You notice colleagues who are pulled along rather than supporting the team. You notice antiquated work techniques that could be solved much more easily and efficiently nowadays. You realize how little the management actually knows about what the employees are doing. That is the energy of the tower. Its power lies in seeing these dilapidated components. This energy is able to recognize. It helps to recognize where individual stones and beams are shaking the overall picture. It helps to recognize where it has been painted over again and again instead of being repaired or even renovated. And it helps to recognize whether the building is standing on solid ground at all.

If I now take all this information, then a picture forms that puts the tower map in a corrected light. My ability is actually to see the things that aren’t working. I see injustice, I see where things are crumbling and I also notice what the cause is. But now we come to a supposed problem:

I simply can’t keep my mouth shut.

Yes, I just can’t keep quiet about what I’m seeing. I can’t. And why is that? Because I am very solution-oriented. Because my birth card is the Empress. She is the energy that creates life. She transforms ideas into action. She is the one who wants to grow and supports others to grow. She is fertility and she demands that everything that contradicts this is changed. Perhaps the following metaphor will help you:

Yes, I just can’t keep quiet about what I’m seeing. I can’t. And why is that? Because I am very solution-oriented. Because my birth card is the Empress. She is the energy that creates life. She transforms ideas into action. She is the one who wants to grow and supports others to grow. She is fertility and she demands that everything that contradicts this is changed. Perhaps the following metaphor will help you:

We would like to have some herbs at home. We could buy them in pots, but we want to grow them ourselves. So we go out and buy seeds, soil and pots. No sooner said than done. Of course, we start by looking for sowing soil. Gentle on the seed and yet with enough nutrients so that the young plant develops quickly and well. As our plant grows, we look at the slightest change to see if anything is missing or too much. We check the water and, of course, whether the soil is perhaps no longer good. If it is, we replace it, of course. We follow the growth meticulously and react to the changes. We change the environment so that our plant grows big and strong. And we look at this individually for each variety. Lavender has different requirements than basil. Parsley is undemanding and rosemary is almost impossible to get small. But we check and make sure that we remove everything that stands in the way of the life of our little plants. That is the energy of the Empress.

But what do I do now with the combination of my personality card and my birth card? Well, I’ve already said that I can’t keep my mouth shut. Because my idea is to get rid of the bad and replace it with fertile ground. I want not only me to be able to grow, but also the people around me. It doesn’t matter whether they are at work, at home or my friends. I look out for everyone and myself. Of course, over the last few years I’ve had to watch myself lose myself in the process, but now that I’ve outgrown that old life, I can combine it really well. Maybe I really should keep quiet from time to time, but on the other hand, what would change then?

We can learn a lot about ourselves with these cards. We may understand our behavior or our thoughts a little better. We can recognize what we can work on without bending ourselves and we can find a way to come closer to ourselves.
