Reaching your goal with fun – The energy of the Knight of Pentacles

Well, can you hear a teenager breathing out in annoyance? That could be our Knight of Pentacles, even if it would be rather uncharacteristic of him. The knights represent the energy of adolescents in the court garden. They are no longer children, they have already gained some experience, but they are not yet fully mature and are therefore somewhat more reckless or less consistent. What they all have in common, however, is their pure energy. The sharp tongue of the Knight of Swords, the impulsiveness of the Knight of Wands, the hopeless romanticism of the Knight of Cups. They are joined by the Knight of Pentacles. He is as industrious as a bee and often so easily distracted that he forgets what he has just been doing.

Even now, something distracts him from his work. He knows he’s not quite finished, but the owl flying toward him magically attracts him. He holds a coin in the air as if it were a gift. It is a seed for the next project. The beginning of the next task. Our knight knows that there is a lot of truth in the saying “No pain, no gain!” He knows the steps necessary to achieve the desired result. But sometimes it is simply more tempting to take a break, even though you should really keep going.

Perhaps he risks losing his flow by taking a break. It is also possible that his current project will simply collapse because it needs his support. But the knight accepts this risk as well. He would never carelessly leave the oven on, but if it is something that does not completely captivate him, he is happy to let it slide. Do you know moments like this? They seem very familiar to me. I have another project going on at the same time that requires my attention. But since I have the choice right now, I prefer to put it on hold and write this post instead. This is also part of the energy of the Knight of Pentacles. He likes to choose his priorities based on fun. Just because something takes less time or the reward would be greater doesn’t mean he’ll do it first. He prefers to invest his energy in things that fulfill him. And that’s a good thing.

This card also reminds me of a task I set myself some time ago and which is currently on hold. It’s on hold because I’m not enjoying it at the moment. It’s in the back of my mind and I regularly remind myself that there’s something waiting there. A project close to my heart that could also advance my career. And yet it lies there and stares at me. Is it perhaps time to finally get on with it? But what about the other tasks? Projects upon projects—yes, somehow this teenage energy is also inside me right now.

But what happens next? The “Change” card and the chameleon call us to change. I interpret them as: “Let’s do the opposite.” Are you currently in a work loop? Take a break. Put your feet up for a moment, drink a coffee or tea, and maybe close your eyes for a moment. Take a deep breath and let go for a moment. Especially when we’re working on projects we enjoy, we forget that our bodies and minds need breaks. Often, it’s short breaks that lead us to new paths. When we let our system rest for a moment, it can then continue at full speed. And the best part is that you remain in control and don’t let the task take over at some point.

Do you currently have a project in the pipeline that you haven’t finished? Then let’s continue together. Let’s tackle it together. You take yours and I’ll take mine. Then we’ll set a timer together. 30 minutes. No more, but also no less. And then we’ll start and work on our project with full concentration until the timer runs out. After that, we’ll take a short break. Maybe 10 minutes, and then we’ll continue. Another 30 minutes, and after the timer runs out this time, we’ll decide whether to continue or not. After an hour, we’ll both have gotten a lot done. And even if we haven’t, we’ll have tried and can put it away with a clear conscience. But we will have tried.
