Death, decision, and contentment: Why true freedom begins with the end

Well, did you miss me? Don’t worry, I’m still here. Just a little different. Until now, I used to prepare all the daily posts for the whole week in advance, usually on the weekend. The posts were also always written a day in advance. Everything was geared toward you receiving my post in the morning. But yesterday, I realized that I simply didn’t have the energy to produce anything. I was tired, and deservedly so. The last few days have been intense. I have always seen it as my top priority to write my posts for you, not because of algorithms, but really for you. I simply feel it’s important that you can take something away with you. There are enough meaningless posts on the internet, I don’t need to join in.

So yesterday I took a rest. I simply deserved it. So the first card I’m showing you today is Death. Many people fear this card. The skeleton in black armor rides across a field. We see a fallen king, his crown lying next to him. But death is the same for all of us. It makes no distinction between origin, size, gender, or appearance. When it comes, we know it’s over. But in the background, the sun of a new day is rising. Because death is necessary. Old trees must fall so that new ones can find space to live. It is an eternal coming and going. In general, death always stands for the end. Something ceases to exist. For me, it was a way of working, but it can also stand for the end of a cycle, the end of a relationship, or the end of a job. Endings are manifold. Some are the start of a break, so they are temporary. Others are final. When it comes, it will tell us. At the moment, I would say for myself: the time of preparation is over. When I write a post, I write it exactly when and where I want to.

The second card that appeared is the 2 of Swords. This card shows a person sitting with their back to the sea. They are blindfolded. They hold a sword in each hand. Their arms are crossed so that both tips point in different directions. This card is the personification of decision-making. It is not about how or what you decide, but about doing it. Decisions, conscious decisions, are important. They give us control over our lives, and we make decisions many times a day, mostly unconsciously. We also make many decisions out of a kind of compulsion. We feel cornered and usually choose the quickest way out at that moment. But every decision has its consequences. With this card, however, one thing is very clear: it doesn’t matter which direction you go in. The sea remains calm. Both swords are the same. For me, it just happened that way last night. This decision didn’t mean that I would stop writing, but that I would stop prescribing. Let’s see how long that lasts.

Now for the last card for today: The 9 of Cups. This is the card of contentment and luxury. Both are feelings that require different conditions for each person. I generally achieve a feeling of contentment quickly. To be honest, I’m quite undemanding. The only thing that can quickly destroy this contentment is boredom. Otherwise, I don’t need a 4-star kitchen or anything special. I have what I need, and that’s good. Luxury is a little more difficult for me to achieve. What does luxury mean to you? For me, it means organizing my day exactly the way I want to. Today, for example, I have a shift at work, but I was able to decide when to leave. Do I want to be there early and maybe have a coffee and relax? My tasks are clearly defined, but I can decide when to do them. I do some things at the beginning, others on the side, and some at the end. I organize it in a way that suits me and feels right.

Now I even have time and a clear head to write this post. Somehow, that’s pure luxury. I have a few tasks waiting for me at home, too, but I decide what I do and when. That’s exactly what I wanted to achieve with my self-employment: to be able to organize my time freely and structure my day in a way that’s right for me.

If you like, I’d be happy to accompany you and look into your cards. We can also take a closer look at what luxury and satisfaction mean to you, or what decisions need to be made to achieve both. There are so many possibilities, you just have to be willing to explore them.
